LITHUANIAN AMERICAN CLUB
This Website will present information on Lithuanians living in various parts of Florida. The heaviest concentration of Lithuanians in Florida is in the western part of Central Florida, and specifically in Pinellas County/ St. Petersburg area. They are a closely knit and social group of people who enjoy dancing, singing, hearty meal of "kugelis"or "cepelinai" and some friendly talk or gossip with a glass of wine or a mug of frothy beer. Lithuanian Club organizes many wonderful EVENTS and fun PARTIES in our Grand Ballroom - Big Hall and in our Small Ballroom - Small Hall, the facilities may be rented for Events and Parties by the general public.
The begininngs of our Club date back more than half a century. In 1956 a group of Americans of Lithuanian origin formed a choral group "Daile" in St. Petersburg. After some years of successful existence, members of "Daile" group realized the need for an organization which would promote fellowship among Lithuanian- Americans and would also foster the Lithuanian heritage, traditions, cultural, literary and mental welfare of the members. With these objectives in November 1961 a new organization, the Lithuanian American Club, was established. It was incorporated as a non -profit association and registered with the Secretary of State of Florida. The Club started with forty initial members and has grown to be the largest American-Lithuanian organization in Florida. The devoted volunteer work and generosity of all members was rewarded on February 1st, 1964 with the opening of a new Club building at the present location, it was built, furnished and enlarged twice solely by donations of the members. It includes a large Library room, one large and two small Halls for various activities and a fully equipped Kitchen. Folk dance groups, choral assemblies, Lithuanian heritage school and other smaller groups use the facilities for their annual events or other activities. The Club publishes monthly newsletter, has an active Cultural Society, holds Sunday luncheons, organizes concerts, lectures, i.e. it holds a variety of social and cultural activities and is a meeting place for Lithuanian residents, tourists/visitors in St. Petersburg. For a fee the club also offers facilities ( Grand Ballroom - Big Hall and in our Small Ballroom - Small Hall ) to be used by the general public. Members of the club happily share their heritage and traditions and are proud to be able to contribute to the multi-cultural life of the City of St. Petersburg and surrounding areas. The club in 1975 was one of the 13 original founding members of the St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society (SPIFFS). After fifty years The American-Lithuanian club continues to be the main force in promoting fellowship in the community and upholding Lithuanian culture and traditions.

This section will provide general information about the west central part of Florida and specifically Pinellas County, where the majority of Lithuanians have established their vacation homes or permanent residences. The Florida peninsula of Pinellas is surrounded by water on three sides, including the Gulf of Mexico on the west and Tampa Bay on the east and south. In addition, Boca Ciega Bay divides the beach communities from the rest of peninsula. Most wellcome area for Lithuanians is the southern part of Pinellas county encompassing cities such as St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, So. Pasadena, Gulfport, Seminole and of course St. Petersburg itself. Pinellas County also is a host to three major league baseball team's spring training camps, several professional golf tournaments, greyhound racing at Derby Lane and auto racing at Sunshine Speedway. Cultural respite is provided by various museums including world famous Salvadori Dali Museum. One can enjoy theatrical performances and concerts at Eckerd Hall, Mahaffey Theatre downtown or dance to famous bands at the Colliseum Ballroom. For those who enjoy their leisure, the area has 250 recreational parks (most popular being Fort DeSoto Park), 49 golf courses, 623 tennis courts, 135 marina and and boat facilities, and 34-mile paved Pinellas Trail for walking, biking and inline skating. As a beach hot spot the area is unparalleled, with white sand pristine beaches that stretch uninterrupted for more than twenty miles from a tip at Pass-a-Grille past St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Redington Beach, Bellair Shores up to Clearwater and further north. For a shopping pleasure there are several good size Malls: Tyrone Mall, Seminole Mall, Countryside Mall etc, and a huge Ellenton Outlet Mall some 40 minutes away. At night the county goes from a peaceful beach venue to an exiting hot spot with plenty of clubs and fine restaurants to amuse even the most wordly of travelers. Vinoy Renaissance Resort in St. Petersburg and Don Cesar Resort "the Pink House" in St. Pete Beach have no equals in the country. In addition, Pinellas County has more than 1,200 manufacturing companies including 107 medical and pharmaceutical manufacturers. The county also has 80 elementary schools, 23 middle schools, 16 high schools. Other well balanced academic environments include St. Petersburg Junior College, University of South Florida Campus, Stetson University College of Law and several Institutes and University extensions. No one really knows how many Lithuanians live in the area. Some count in hundreds, others believe, truer figure might be a few thousands. Lithuanian- American Club boosts over 500 dues paying members alone. But no one disputes that warm sea breezes and warm sunshine (Pinellas county guarantees 360 sunny days in a normal year) of one of the nature's most attractive climates, makes it a pleasure to live and enjoy leisure lifestyle almost year round. World famous tourist attractions such as Disney World, Epcot, Sea World, Universal Studios are some two hours away, and Busch Gardens and Adventure Island is just across the Bay of Tampa. Very convenient and modern Tampa International Airport, gateway to any part of the world, is only 35-40 minutes away.
